One of the old grande dames in the hotel world - The Metropole in Hanoi did not disappoint.
A fabulous blend of French and Asian, classic and contemporary!
They have brightened it up! I went there first in 1993 or 1994, before they'd built the new wing at the back, and then a second time in 2007, but these updates are since then. Enjoyed your posts and photos on Vietnam, which is of course so very close from here. One of my favourite hotels in the world is the Park Hyatt in Saigon, where we've stayed a number of times. I think one of your staircases is from there, (sweeping down to the lobby)?
You are right that is the staircase in the Park Hyatt! I met with an old friend from New Delhi who happened to be visiting at the same time....I confess most of the pictures are from the new wing. The old wing decor is pleasant but very brown even updated. Re: closeness...it is a disgrace I have not been before. It is still quite inexpensive compared to Phuket. Many thanks for taking the time to comment.
